Belagavi: Stone-pelting breaks out during Urs procession

India

On October 3, stone-pelting broke out during the Urs procession at Mehboob Subhani Dargah in Belagavi's Khadak Galli.
The unrest started when some youths chanted "I Love Muhammad" along a new route unfamiliar to locals.
Objections over the changed path and slogans led to clashes, which quickly escalated into stone-throwing.
Police acted fast, diverted the procession, and cleared the crowd—thankfully, no one was hurt.

Police are now checking CCTV footage and have promised action

Police are now checking CCTV footage and have promised action against those involved.
Extra officers are on patrol in Khadak Galli and nearby areas to keep things calm.
This isn't the first sign of tension here—back in May 2025, a religious book was partially burned near a mosque in Santibasthawad village, sparking protests that caused traffic disruption on the Belagavi-Goa highway.
Authorities say they're closely monitoring things and asking everyone to stay peaceful while investigations continue.
