Blaze on Singapore ship enters 3rd day, IAF's MI-17 V5 joins firefighting ops
A major fire broke out on the Singapore-flagged container ship MV Wan Hai 503, which has now been burning and drifting off Kerala's coast for three days. The ship was traveling from Colombo to Mumbai when explosions set it ablaze, damaging containers and sending some overboard.
18 crew members rescued so far
Of the 22 crew members, 18 have been rescued so far—two with serious burns—but four are still missing. Indian Coast Guard, Navy, and Air Force teams are working round-the-clock to put out the fire and keep the ship stable as it drifts.
Singapore has praised India's quick response
Singapore has praised India's quick response. While about 40% of the fire is under control, there are still risks from heat and toxic gasses. Both countries are also watching for possible oil spills that could threaten Kerala's coastline near Kozhikode and Kochi. It's a reminder of how fast things can go wrong at sea—and how teamwork matters in a crisis.
