Bombay High Court dismisses dowry harassment case
The Bombay High Court (Aurangabad Bench) has quashed a dowry harassment case against six people, saying the claims didn't add up.
The woman had accused her in-laws of demanding ₹20 lakh and abusing her just weeks after her wedding, but the court found big gaps in her story—like proof that the couple went on a honeymoon and that she hid having a senior executive job.
Judges called the charges "frivolous" and said there were too many contradictions.
Judges criticized police for not properly investigating
The judges criticized police for not properly investigating—they hadn't even visited the couple's home and just took statements at her father's house.
The court felt it was unlikely such serious dowry demands happened so soon after marriage.
They also warned that misusing Section 498-A (the anti-dowry law) can hurt real victims by making investigations sloppy and less trustworthy.
