British doctors detained at UP border for lack of documents

India

Two British doctors—one of Indian origin and one of Pakistani origin—were stopped at the India-Nepal border in Uttar Pradesh after crossing over from Nepal without proper travel documents.
Even though one had an Overseas Citizen of India card, officials said their entry was illegal since this route is only open to Indian and Nepalese citizens.

Why were they there, and what happened next?

The doctors, both audiologists, had just finished providing their services at a medical camp in Nepal and said they wanted to visit a local market.
But during routine checks, security flagged their paperwork as incomplete and raised concerns about nationality.
After questioning by authorities, they were handed over to local police under laws that deal with unauthorized entry into India.
