CBSE introduces 2nd attempt option for Class 10 exams
Starting 2026, CBSE is giving Class 10 students two shots at their board exams.
The first round is in February (everyone has to take this one), with results out in April.
If you want to boost your marks, there's an optional second exam in May—results come in June.
Key features of the new pattern
You can try to improve scores in up to three subjects—science, math, social science, or languages.
Both exams cover the full syllabus and follow the same pattern.
Miss three or more subjects in February? You'll have to repeat the year since there's no extra chance in May. But if you only fail one subject, you can retake it as a compartment exam in May.
There are also special rules for athletes and students from winter-bound schools.
Why this change?
This change is all about cutting down exam stress and giving you more flexibility—something most students said they wanted when CBSE asked for feedback.
It lines up with the National Education Policy 2020's push for a less stressful exam season.
