Centre approves suspension of IPS officers in stadium stampede case
After a deadly stampede at Bengaluru's M. Chinnaswamy Stadium during the Royal Challengers Bangalore IPL victory bash, the Centre has approved suspending three senior IPS officers.
The June 4 incident saw a massive crowd, leading to 11 deaths and more than 65 injuries.
Suspension is not punishment
The officers suspended are B Dayananda (then Bengaluru Police Commissioner), Vikas Kumar (Additional Commissioner), and Shekhar HT (Deputy Commissioner).
Karnataka's government took this step following reports related to crowd control.
With the Centre signing off, the investigation into their roles will move faster—but remember, suspension isn't punishment, it just keeps them out of duty while things get sorted out.
Meanwhile, some BJP leaders say this is just shifting blame instead of fixing bigger issues with event safety.
