Christian leaders meet Amit Shah over FCRA Amendment Bill 2026
Members of the Christian community sat down with Home Minister Amit Shah on August 6 to talk about the new Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026.
They are worried the bill could make it harder for groups that rely on foreign donations to keep running, and asked for a deeper review by a Joint Parliamentary Committee.
Shah promised their concerns would be taken seriously.
Critics warn of FCRA asset takeover
A big sticking point is that if an organization loses its FCRA registration, a government authority could take over its assets: something critics say might lead to property loss without fair process.
The government says these changes are meant to boost transparency and accountability, while Amit Shah also acknowledged the contribution of churches to nation-building.

Leaders also brought up aggression against Christians. Shah encouraged them to report incidents through FIRs and asked them to report such cases directly to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The bill is still under consideration, but some new rules have already kicked in since June 22.
