Cyclone Shakhti intensifies into severe cyclonic storm

India

Cyclone Shakhti, the first post-monsoon cyclone of 2025 in the Arabian Sea, has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm.
According to the IMD, it's spinning about 420km away from Dwarka, Gujarat with winds up to 100km/h and is expected to move further out to sea by October 5.

What about Mumbai rains?

Even though Shakhti isn't set to make landfall in India and should weaken from October 6, its outer bands could still bring heavy rain and possible flash floods to cities like Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Pune.
The sea will be rough off Gujarat and north Maharashtra until October 5—so fishermen have been told to stay away from the Arabian Sea until October 7 for safety.
