Cyclone Shakhti strengthens over Arabian Sea; IMD issues advisories

Cyclone Shakhti, the first post-monsoon cyclone of the season, is picking up strength over the Arabian Sea.
The IMD says it's about 270km southwest of Naliya, Gujarat, moving northwest at 8km/h with winds reaching 100km/h.
Even though it won't hit India directly, people in Gujarat and Maharashtra can expect its impact between October 4-7.

What to expect in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar

IMD has put out advisories for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and nearby coastal areas.
Expect strong winds (45-55km/h), high waves and heavy rain during this time.
Fishermen have been asked to stay off the sea until things calm down.
