Cyclone watch: Heavy rain and winds headed for Tamil Nadu
India
A deep depression over the Bay of Bengal is expected to strengthen into a cyclone and move toward North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the next couple of days, according to the IMD.
The system was last spotted about 170km east of Hambantota, Sri Lanka.
Why does this matter?
The IMD is warning of very heavy rain from November 28-30, especially in delta districts of Tamil Nadu. Gusty winds up to 60km/h and thunderstorms are likely too.
With some areas already dealing with floods from earlier rains, more waterlogging is expected, and there may be a risk of landslides in vulnerable areas—so it's smart to stay alert.
Extra heads-up
Cyclone Senyar (in the Strait of Malacca) sounds dramatic but won't impact Tamil Nadu's weather—so no worries there.
