DGCA's new rules: More rest, less stress for pilots and crew
India's aviation regulator, the DGCA, just announced new rules to help pilots and cabin crew get more rest and avoid burnout.
With flights getting busier, these changes are all about keeping everyone safer in the skies.
Annual training and honest fatigue reporting
Airlines now have to give yearly training on managing fatigue—covering duty hours, sleep cycles, and healthy habits—for all pilots and crew members, with schedulers and dispatch teams recommended to participate.
Plus, crew can report feeling tired without worrying about getting in trouble.
Stricter oversight and longer breaks
DGCA will check up on airlines with quarterly reports about training and any fatigue incidents.
Pilots now get 48 hours off, there are limits on late-night landings, and anyone who says they're too tired gets at least a full day's rest.
An independent committee will also review reports to keep improving safety.
