UP's ₹11cr mid-day meal scam: What went down
A huge scam has come to light in Balrampur, Uttar Pradesh, where 44 people—including school and madarsa heads, officials, and village leaders—are accused of faking student numbers to pocket over ₹11 crore meant for kids' mid-day meals.
Over an extended period, records and attendance were reportedly tampered with so funds could be siphoned off instead of feeding students.
Who's involved & what's next?
The district mid-day meal coordinator, Firoz Ahmad Khan, has been named as the main mastermind. Payments went out to schools and madarsas that barely had any real students.
Alongside Khan, several principals and local leaders are under investigation.
Audits are still ongoing, so more names could surface as police dig deeper into how fake documents were used to claim government money.
