Delhi HC upholds disability pension for soldiers
The Delhi High Court just made it clear: soldiers can't be refused disability pensions for illnesses picked up during service, even if they're stationed somewhere peaceful.
This comes after nearly 300 petitions challenged the government's stance that conditions like hypertension and heart disease shouldn't count if they develop away from combat zones.
'Military life is stressful everywhere'
The court pointed out that military life is stressful everywhere—not just in war zones—and that stress can trigger serious health issues.
As the judges put it, "Disability pensions are not a gift or charity but a recognition of the sacrifices made by soldiers."
They also called out medical boards for not giving proper reasons when rejecting claims, saying every case deserves a fair look at both service impact and medical history.
This means better protection and support for those serving, no matter where they're posted.
