Delhi-PWD tells officials to check sites for water-logging during rains

Public Works Department of the Delhi-government'>Delhi Government has directed its senior officials to visit their respective areas during rains to check water-logging. The directives were issued at a recent meeting, chaired by Engineer-in-Chief (E-in-C) Rakesh Kumar Agrawal. According to the minutes of the meeting, PWD field units were also directed to inform the centralized control room about water-logging in areas, irrespective of the jurisdiction.

Everyone should be kept in-loop while dealing with water-logging: MOM

During the monsoon season, Delhi witnesses water-logging on roads and agencies blame each other for not taking concrete steps to prevent the situation. "It was directed that in addition to subordinate field-staff, superintendent engineers should also visit their respective sites to check for waterlogging problems. The respective MCDs should also be kept in loop while dealing with waterlogging problems," the minutes of meeting stated.

Silt from small drains reach already cleaned PWD drains: Officials

In the meeting, some officials pointed out that due to non-cleaning of smaller drains, the silt from these drains, during rains, reach the already cleaned PWD drains. The E-in-C directed that in cases where the work is held up due to issues of other civic agencies, the matter should be taken up with them in writing with proper details, including photographs.

Sisodia earlier called for special purpose vehicle to clean drains

Last month, Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia had called for setting up of a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to clean the city's drains and prevent water-logging on roads. Sisodia had said the process of drain cleaning by the PWD and the MCDs was very "primitive".
