Delhi to deny fuel to old vehicles from 1 July
Starting July 1, New Delhi is cutting off fuel for diesel vehicles over 10 years old and petrol vehicles over 15 years old.
This move, led by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), is all about tackling air pollution—something that's been a big concern in the city.
Fuel stations will use special cameras to spot older cars and make sure the rule sticks.
No fuel for old vehicles in Delhi
About 100 teams from transport and traffic departments will be out checking compliance, using data from those camera systems linked with the VAHAN Dashboard.
If your vehicle is too old, you won't get fuel in Delhi (though you can still use it outside the city with a No Objection Certificate).
After a successful pilot that saw over 44,000 end-of-life vehicles impounded, this policy will expand to places like Gurugram and Faridabad later this year, with plans for a full NCR rollout by April 2026.
The message is clear: cleaning up Delhi's air means rethinking how long we keep our cars on the road.
