Delhi's air quality plummets to 'severe' levels again

India

Delhi woke up to seriously bad air this Sunday, as the Air Quality Index (AQI) near AIIMS shot up to 421—officially in the "severe" zone.
Just two days ago, it was at 218 ("poor"), so things have gotten worse fast.
Thick smog and fog made it tough to see at major airports too, with visibility dropping below normal.

Why is pollution so bad?

Out of 38 monitoring stations across Delhi, 26 showed AQI above 300—so most of the city is breathing unhealthy air right now.
Calm winds and high humidity are trapping all that pollution close to the ground, while crop burning and traffic fumes aren't helping either.
Experts warn these conditions could stick around until mid-November.

What does this mean for your health?

This level of pollution isn't just a number—it can cause real problems like coughs, breathing trouble, or even heart issues, especially for kids, older people, or anyone with asthma.
It is generally advised to limit outdoor activities and take extra care if you're sensitive to bad air during such pollution episodes.
