Dense fog, cold wave alert in parts of North India
What's the story
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for cold wave conditions and dense fog in several states on December 15. The states include Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Himachal Pradesh. The IMD has warned of extremely dense fog in parts of Uttar Pradesh today, which will severely reduce visibility and disrupt travel plans.

IMD forecasts heavy rain in several states
The IMD has also predicted heavy rainfall from December 15 to 17 in the southern Indian states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka. Andaman-Nicobar and Puducherry are also expected to receive rain in this period. In the northern part of the country, Uttarakhand, Jammu-Kashmir, and Ladakh are expected to receive rainfall. There are also warnings of strong winds with thunderstorms in the plains and snowfall in hilly areas during this period.
Visibility issues
Dense fog disrupts visibility in Delhi-NCR region
In the Delhi-NCR region, dense fog with poor air quality has severely reduced visibility. The IMD has issued orange alerts for fog in the area, advising motorists and air travelers to be cautious. The cold wave conditions have also spread to South India, with severe cold wave conditions likely over north interior of Karnataka on December 15.

Cold wave conditions likely in Telangana, interior Karnataka
The IMD has predicted highly probable cold wave conditions at isolated places over Telangana and interior Karnataka. This comes amid reports of chilly mornings and sharp drops in temperature on the outskirts of Hyderabad, where minimum temperatures are likely to be around 11-12°C for the next few days. Meanwhile, Bengaluru witnessed cold mornings and relatively pleasant winter afternoons with temperatures between mid-teens and upper 20s.
