DGCA mandates 'Corrective training' for IndiGo pilots

After a scary flight from Delhi to Srinagar on May 21, where an IndiGo plane dropped nearly 3,900 feet in heavy turbulence and hail but still landed safely, India's aviation regulator (DGCA) has ordered extra training for the pilots.
The aircraft's nose cone was damaged, but everyone onboard made it through okay.

TL;DR

What happened during the flight

The investigation showed the crew tried to avoid the storm by asking to enter Indian Air Force and then Pakistani airspace—both requests were denied.
With no way around, they had to steer manually through rough weather at a steep drop of 8,500 feet per minute.

Changes in DGCA guidelines

DGCA responded by updating its guidelines: now, safety comes before sticking to tight schedules.
The new rules encourage pilots to divert flights during bad weather—part of a bigger push to make flying safer after recent close calls in Indian skies.
