Diwali 2026: Liquor sales paused in Delhi Uttar Pradesh Maharashtra
Planning to celebrate Diwali with a drink?
Heads up, liquor shops in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and several other states will be closed on Diwali 2026.
This dry day is all about honoring the festival's traditions by pausing alcohol sales for the day.
Select hotels allowed in-house alcohol sales
If you're staying at certain hotels in Delhi (with L-15 or L-15F licenses), or select hotels in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, you can still get a drink in Delhi hotels with L-15 or L-15F licenses, and in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, specially licensed four- and five-star hotels may serve in-house guests through room service only.
Looking ahead, Guru Nanak Jayanti (November 24) and Christmas (December 25) will also be dry days in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
Just so you know: < em>Dhanteras, Govardhan Puja, and Bhai Dooj aren't dry days, so regular alcohol sales continue then.
Breaking these rules can lead to fines or even suspension of licenses for businesses.
