DMK functionary shot dead in Salem over land dispute
India
C. Rajendran, 43, a local DMK branch secretary and farmer, was shot and killed on Friday night in Salem while heading to his farmland with his wife.
Police say the murder was tied to a long-running land dispute with relatives—turning what should have been an ordinary evening into a tragedy for his family.
Case update: investigation underway
Rajendran was attacked with a country-made gun and died at the scene.
Police have detained two relatives, Rajamanickam and Palanisamy, who had previous conflicts with him over land issues.
The weapon hasn't been found yet.
Rajendran's body has been sent for post-mortem, and investigators are gathering evidence.
