DNA matching concludes for Air India crash victims
DNA testing for all 251 victims of the London-bound Air India Dreamliner aircraft crash in Ahmedabad is now done, and most families have received their loved ones' remains.
The June 12 crash took the lives of nearly everyone onboard and also caused tragic losses on the ground.
Victims from multiple countries
Victims included people from India, the UK, Portugal, Canada, and some non-passengers. Because of how severe the crash was, DNA tests were needed to identify most of them.
Families across Gujarat (including Ahmedabad), Maharashtra, Rajasthan—and even London—have now been able to hold final rites.
Disaster affected people on ground too
The disaster didn't just affect passengers; at least 30 people nearby also lost their lives.
One poignant moment: Lawrence Danielbhai Christian's funeral was held after he came home to say goodbye to his own father.
Out of everyone involved, only one person survived—a rare outcome in such a major tragedy.
