Gurugram: Doctor allegedly rapes nurse, forces her to undergo abortions

In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old doctor in Gurugram was booked by police on Wednesday for allegedly raping and forcing a 23-year-old nurse to undergo abortions. In her complaint, the nurse revealed she knew him since 2016 and they were colleagues. They were living together but after they started working at different hospitals, the doctor started ignoring her. She then confided in her parents.

Doctor promised to marry nurse, then started living with her

According to reports, the nurse and the accused doctor worked together at a private hospital for the last three and a half years. The victim said the doctor befriended her and started messaging her. He even promised to marry her after which they got into a physical relationship. Subsequently, they rented an accommodation in Sohna and started living together in 2017.

Doctor allegedly raped her for two years

The woman told police that after they started living together, the accused allegedly raped her for nearly two years. He kept telling her they would get married. "He (accused) said all his family members know about her as they frequently visited them," revealed Shamsher Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime). During those two years, the woman said she had to undergo abortion four times.

Accused introduced the victim as his 'wife' to friends

Singh added the doctor took the victim to meet his friends and also introduced her as his wife. His friends also came for dinners at their home. But things worsened after the accused and the nurse changed jobs. "After they joined different hospitals, the complainant started pressuring him for marriage but he kept delaying it and then started ignoring her," Singh said.

Accused started ignoring victim after February

The victim said she underwent another abortion in December last year and went home after that as her health deteriorated. She revealed the accused kept in touch with her till February but then went incommunicado. When she told her parents about what happened, they went to meet the doctor and his family. The victim's family approached police after the accused refused to marry her.

Police registered case, accused is absconding

The police registered a case under IPC Section 376 (2) (n). The accused is at large and police have launched a manhunt to nab him. Reportedly, police are tapping on suspected locations to find the doctor.
