India
L Ganesan, a major voice in Tamil Nadu's Dravidian politics, has died at 92.
Starting out as a student inspired by the Tamil language movement, he joined DMK early on and became known for his dedication to the party's ideals.
His journey: activism, leadership, and legacy
Ganesan made his mark during the anti-Hindi protests of the 1960s and even spent time in jail during the Emergency for standing up for his beliefs.
He served as an MLA and MLC, helped found MDMK with Vaiko, and later won a Lok Sabha seat from Tiruchi.
After being expelled from MDMK, he returned to DMK where he was warmly called "Mozhipor Thalapathy" (Commander of Language Struggle) by supporters.
Ganesan is survived by his family; his last rites will be held in his hometown.
