Environmentalists question prolonged defoaming of Yamuna with silicone-based chemicals
India
The nonprofit Earth Warrior is worried about Delhi's Yamuna River, where silicone-based defoamers have been sprayed for over 40 days—way longer than the usual 7-10 days during Chhath Puja.
The nonprofit Earth Warrior says this could be risky for the river's ecosystem and wants to know why things have changed.
Earth Warrior pushes for answers and transparency
Earth Warrior has asked Delhi officials and the Jal Board to explain the extended use of these chemicals, share any scientific studies behind their decision, and make data on dosage and water quality public.
They're also calling for a pause on spraying until it's clear that aquatic life isn't being harmed, pointing out that using defoamers when there's no visible foam just doesn't add up.
