FASTag expansion: Insurance and challan payments soon
FASTag, which you probably know as the sticker that gets you through highway tolls, is getting a big upgrade.
Soon, you'll be able to use it for way more—think paying traffic fines, parking fees, insurance premiums, and even charging your EV.
The government's teaming up with NHAI, the finance ministry, and fintech companies to make this happen.
One vehicle, 1 tag rule
Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari says this move should make travel smoother and payments simpler for everyone.
There's also talk of a "one vehicle, one tag" rule so things stay streamlined.
Plus, if insurers can issue FASTags directly, more vehicles could get insured—jumping coverage from 50% to 90%.
The only catch? The official vehicle database needs an update first since it still lists millions of inactive vehicles.
