Another fire in Mumbai: Blaze in Navrang Studio, no casualty

A massive fire broke out at the dilapidated Navrang Studio at Lower Parel, Mumbai, shortly after midnight. Though there is no casualty, TOI reports a fireman was injured in the operations. He is stable now. The cause of the fire is still unknown. This comes more than 10 days after a blaze erupted at Cinevista Studio in Kanjurmarg. An audio had assistant died.

A series of fires in Mumbai 10 days

On December 28, 14 people were killed when a blaze broke out at a rooftop restaurant in Kamala Mills. Since then, more people were killed in fires in Marol, Nagpada, Cinevista and Lower Parel. On January 8, a fire erupted on the third floor of a sessions court near the South Mumbai Campus of the University of Mumbai.

Glaring violation of safety norms in most cases

In most incidents, blatant disregard for safety norms and indifference of authorities were common factors. Sometimes there was no fire exit, or a structure was illegally constructed, or the firefighting system was defunct, or combustible material was found strayed across. The Navrang building too was "old (and) unoccupied." The approach route isn't smoothly accessible, so firemen had to station themselves at nearby buildings.
