Four critically injured in Delhi slum fire, 17 others wounded

Four people were critically injured when a fire broke out in a slum area in Delhi's Sriniwaspuri last evening. ANI reported the site of the blaze was a plastic factory. There are no reports of casualties. Seventeen others also suffered injuries. All are undergoing treatment at Safdarjung Hospital. The fire was caused by LPG leakage, said a Delhi Fire Services officer.

Blaze was doused within half hour of being reported

The mishap was reported at around 7:05pm, Delhi Fire Services officers said. Within minutes, four fire tenders were at the spot. The blaze was doused by 7:30pm. One of the four serious victims, a 43-year-old woman, sustained 55% burn injuries; the others suffered 25% injuries.

Limelight on rampant violation of fire safety norms

Four days ago, at least five persons were injured in a blaze at a plastic toy warehouse in Usmanpur. The fire had started from the ground floor and spread to the first and second floors quickly, fire officials said. Fire safety of establishments and premises across cities has drawn criticism after a series of fires in Mumbai killed many.
