Drugged for not marrying MLA's son: Daughter of ex-BJP MLA

In Amazon Original Series, Made in Heaven, the protagonists saved a politician's daughter from her family which drugged her for refusing to marry another leader's son. Now, something similar is being played out in Madhya Pradesh. The daughter of a former BJP MLA has alleged her father is harassing her for refusing to marry another politician's son. Here's her story.

Politician said daughter is "unstable", she refuted his theory

At the center of this sensational story is 28-year-old Bharti Singh, the daughter of Surendra Nath Singh. On October 16, he filed a police complaint at Kamla Nagar police station saying his "mentally ill" daughter has gone missing. But, a video, that is being widely circulated on social media, painted a different picture. In the clip, Bharti said she left home due to "harassment".

Because of harassment, Bharti left home, started working in Pune

Bharti has also filed a petition before Jabalpur bench of High Court seeking police protection. According to her, she is being pressurized by her cousin for not agreeing to marry a politician's son. This harassment drove her to leave home and take up a job at a fitness center in Pune. Later, she returned home after she was told her mother is "miserable".

After she returned home, the harassment started again

"When I returned, my family members started forcing me to marry a politician's son, so I left home again," she said in the petition, and also sought police protection. She also requested that any complaint filed against her should be dismissed.

I am not with Christian or Muslim man: Bharti

Separately, in the clip, Bharti urged everyone to not make it a religious issue. "I am not with a Christian or Muslim man. I have left my home because I wanted to leave," she purportedly said. Asserting that she's mentally sound, she added, "My family is producing false documents because they are in a position to do that. I can't obviously do that."

Injections were also a part of the torture

Further, she has claimed her family gave her "injections". In fact, last year, Bharti complained about her family to the Chief Minister's Helpline and Mahila Ayog. She claimed she was taken to Bhopal's Hajela Hospital and given the sleep-inducing Perilin injection. Apparently, Bharti is in a relationship with a 33-year-old man of a different community, whom she wants to marry.

Meanwhile, the politician called it fight between two generations

As the case gained media momentum, the politician said it's a struggle between two generations. "Every parent wants their child marries a better person. But this generation of children wants that they will first settle down in their career and then marry," Singh was quoted by TOI. He said he learned about the petition in High Court from media.
