Friends hide drowning by staging victim's body at home

India

In Sichuan, China, a 38-year-old man drowned in a reservoir on September 4.
Instead of calling for help or reporting the accident, his two friends took his body home and placed it in his bed to make it look like he was just sleeping.
The family only discovered the truth three days later.

What happened next?

Surveillance footage revealed the friends, Tao and another villager, transporting the body on a motorcycle—holding him upright as if nothing was wrong.
Police confirmed there was no foul play and ruled it an accidental drowning. Under Chinese law, they aren't required to report such incidents or help, so no criminal charges were filed.
Still, the victim's family lawyer said they could be responsible for compensation. Tao has offered about $11,000 to cover funeral costs through village mediation.
