G20 Summit: India steps up on global issues
At the G20 Summit in South Africa, India took center stage by pushing for stronger action against terrorism and bigger commitments to climate finance.
The declaration, adopted at the start of the Johannesburg summit—despite opposition from the US, which boycotted the gathering—condemned all forms of terrorism, which was a key outcome for India following the April Pahalgam attack, and called for climate funding to jump from billions to trillions to hit Paris Agreement targets.
More ways India made its mark
The declaration also spotlighted disaster resilience through India's partnership with France in the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI).
Plus, it reaffirmed India's leadership in digital tech and public infrastructure.
There was a clear call for reforming the UN Security Council so regions like Africa and Asia-Pacific get more say—another sign of India's growing influence on global decisions.
