Haryana ADGP found dead at home, allegedly died by suicide
Haryana's Additional Director General of Police, Y Puran Kumar, was found dead at his Chandigarh home on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
Police say he allegedly died by suicide in the soundproof basement using his service revolver.
His daughter discovered him, and investigations are ongoing.
Kumar's career and family details
Kumar was an engineering graduate and a 2001 batch IPS officer who held several important posts in Haryana Police. He had recently become Inspector General at the Police Training Centre in Rohtak.
His wife, Amneet P Kumar—a senior IAS officer—is currently in Japan on official work and is expected to return soon.
Kumar had raised concerns over IPS promotions
Kumar had openly questioned promotion practices for IPS officers in Haryana, even challenging some policies legally.
News of his passing has left many colleagues shocked and saddened as investigations continue.
