Honeypreet learning dress designing, block printing in prison
Honeypreet Insan, the alleged adopted daughter of rape convict and Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, has enrolled for three courses - dress designing, block printing, and beauty tips - at the Ambala central prison outside Chandigarh. The courses are being offered by an Ambala-based skill development institute under the Ambala district legal services authority. Here's more.
Honeypreet's courses are part of routine activities
"Our priority is to train convicts who are expected to complete their term. We allow undertrials (Honeypreet is one) to be enrolled based on availability of seats," said the Haryana inspector general (jails), Jagjeet Singh, explaining that such activities are held throughout the year.
Honeypreet always had an affinity for designer clothes, dressing up
Honeypreet, it would seem, always had an affinity for designer clothes, and dressing up. She has starred in several movies along with Dera Sacha Sauda chief Ram Rahim, such as 'MSG: Messenger of God', and 'MSG-II', and often appeared on screen in designer clothes. Reportedly, she also liked to dress up on regular days. Seems like the courses are up her lane.
Honeypreet was imprisoned for conspiring to spread violence
Honeypreet, whose actual name is Priyanka Taneja, is spending time in prison for allegedly conspiring to spread violence after Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was convicted of rape by a CBI court in August 2017. Following Ram Rahim's conviction, Honeypreet was absconding for a while before she turned herself in to the Haryana police. She's been in prison since October 2017.
The charges against Honeypreet Insan
After Ram Rahim was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for two rapes, Dera Sacha Sauda followers had stirred up violence in Panchkula and Sirsa in Haryana leaving 30 dead and 260 injured. Top Dera functionaries - Honeypreet, Aditya, and Pawan Insan - were booked by the Haryana police on charges of sedition and conspiring to help Ram Rahim escape after the CBI conviction.
