IMD forecasts excessive July rainfall, potential flooding

Get ready for a wetter-than-usual July! The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is predicting rainfall above the normal average, following an already rainy June.
IMD chief M. Mohapatra has flagged the risk of urban flooding in states like Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Uttarakhand, and Haryana due to these heavy showers.

TL;DR

Monsoon likely to take break from July 5-15

To help prevent floods, officials are urging close watch on river and reservoir levels this month.
There's also a heads-up: the monsoon might pause briefly from July 5-15 before picking up again.
On the climate front, global models suggest neutral El Nino conditions will stick around at least until January 2026—something meteorologists are keeping an eye on as they track this year's weather twists.
