India forms committee to study population shifts and national security
The Indian government just launched a special committee to study how populations are shifting in border areas, big cities, and industrial hubs.
Led by Justice Prakash Prabhakar Naolekar, the group will dig into migration trends and what they mean for national security, a move that follows PM Modi's Independence Day concerns last year about "unnatural demographic changes" in some regions.
Committee to report to Home Ministry
They've got one year to wrap up their findings for the Home Ministry.
Home Minister Amit Shah recently checked in on their progress and made sure they have what they need to get started.
The team has already met up, set their agenda, and is planning visits to spots along the India-Bangladesh and India-Pakistan borders, plus cities like Delhi and Mumbai.
Their research will focus on illegal migration, population pressure, and security risks: insights that could shape future policies on how India manages its borders.
