India outpaces China in 2024 biofuel consumption
India just pulled ahead of China for the second year running to become the world's fourth-biggest biofuel consumer.
In 2024, India's biofuel use jumped 40% to 77,000 barrels per day.
Meanwhile, China's growth was slower at 18%, with much of its biodiesel heading overseas instead of being used at home.
Both countries are ramping up biofuel production as well
India isn't just using more biofuels—it's making more too, with production up 27%.
China still produces more overall (106k vs. India's 70k barrels/day), but both countries are showing that Asia is serious about cleaner energy.
Global demand for biofuels is skyrocketing
Biofuels are having a moment worldwide: demand hit a record high in 2024, topping two million barrels a day.
The US still leads as both top user and producer, but Asia's rapid growth shows how important renewable fuels are becoming for fighting climate change and cutting emissions—something that affects us all.
