COVID-19 vaccination for 12-14 years begins; here's how to register
around 7.11 crore children are expected to be vaccinated in 12 to 14 age group.

India on Wednesday started vaccination of children aged 12 to 14 years as it expands its COVID-19 vaccination coverage. As per government guidelines, the vaccine to be administered in this particular age group would be Corbevax, manufactured by Hyderabad-based Biological E. Reportedly, around 7.11 crore children are expected to be vaccinated in this age group. Here is how you can register your child.

Context
Why does this story matter?
  • India has been rapidly expanding its vaccination coverage since it was rolled out on January 16, 2021, with healthcare workers getting inoculated in the first phase.
  • Subsequently, it was expanded to frontline workers, those above 60 and those over 45 with comorbidities. Later, it was opened for all above 18.
  • On January 3, 2022, it was further extended to include adolescents aged 15-18 years.
Details
Is online registration for vaccination mandatory?

It is not mandatory to register online to get vaccinated. Beneficiaries can both register online or walk into vaccination centers where the vaccination staff can register a beneficiary. Reportedly, vaccination centers will provide for a limited number of on-spot registration slots every day. However, all beneficiaries are recommended to register online and schedule vaccination in advance for a hassle-free vaccination experience.

Process
How to register online?

Open the Co-WIN portal at-www.cowin.gov.in and click on the "Register/Sign In" tab. Enter your mobile number as asked by the portal. Then, click on the 'Get OTP' option to receive a one-time password on your phone number. Feed the OTP in the required box and hit 'verify.' You will be directed to the 'Register for vaccination' page. Enter required details and click on 'register.'

Information
What documents are required for registration?

For children, you will be asked to upload certain documents like the Aadhaar card, etc. If they don't have it, children's school ID cards can also be used to register.
