India urged to aim higher on clean energy: 600GW by 2030
A new report says India should boost its non-fossil energy target from 500GW to 600GW by 2030, thanks to growing power needs from cities, cooling tech, and data centers.
The Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) believes this bigger goal is key for the country's future.
Big wins if we go bigger
Hitting the 600GW mark could save India ₹42,400 crore a year in electricity costs, create 2.4 lakh jobs, and cut emissions by up to 16% compared to FY24 levels.
Plus, it could help prevent future shortages and reduce power procurement costs.
What's standing in the way?
Getting there won't be easy—land issues, grid upgrades, battery storage, and better coordination between governments are all musts.
The report urges policymakers to make this target official so India can keep up with demand while staying green.
