The mortal remains of Indian seafarer Shiv Anand Chaurasia, who was killed in a United States military strike on merchant vessel MT Settebello in the Gulf of Oman, reached his home village in Uttar Pradesh's Deoria district on Wednesday. The body was flown to Gorakhpur and then taken to Chaurasia's ancestral village in an ambulance. However, his family initially refused to take the body out of the ambulance.

Chaurasia's family demanded government assistance and martyr status for Shiv Anand. They have submitted a memorandum to District Magistrate Madhusudan Hulgi through Ramji Chaurasia, Anand's father. The family is demanding a government job for Shiv Anand's wife, financial aid of ₹1 crore from both the central and state governments, free education up to Class 12 for their two children, and martyr status for Anand.
