India's border fencing: Almost done with Pakistan, getting there with Bangladesh

India

India has fenced about 93% of its border with Pakistan and 79% with Bangladesh, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Minister Nityanand Rai shared this update in Parliament, highlighting that most of the long stretches are now covered—over 2,100km along Pakistan and more than 3,200km along Bangladesh.

Why should you care?

Fencing isn't just about marking territory—it helps keep borders safer by cutting down on illegal crossings and smuggling.
The government is focusing on filling the remaining gaps with roads, floodlights, and high-tech surveillance gear and sensors.
There's also some fencing happening along the Myanmar border as part of a bigger plan to boost security across all frontiers.
This matters for everyone—from people living near these borders to anyone interested in how India manages its safety challenges.
