India's bullet train project faces delays due to stuck machinery

The ambitious Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project is running into delays because three massive tunnel boring machines (TBMs)—essential for digging a 21-km underground stretch, including India's first undersea rail tunnel—are stuck at a Chinese port waiting for clearance.
These German-made TBMs are vital for the next phase, but while officials say the timeline hasn't changed yet, the Railway Ministry has already asked the Ministry of External Affairs to step in.

India cautious about Chinese imports post Galwan clash

This delay puts pressure on India's goal to launch its first high-speed rail and shows how global tensions can slow down big projects back home.
Since the 2020 Galwan clash, India has been more cautious about Chinese imports—so even tech like these giant TBMs gets caught up in politics.
Still, there's progress: prep work continues, but getting those TBMs moving again is now top priority if the project hopes to stay on track.
