India's reservoirs nearly full after strong monsoon, but some regions still lag

India

India's big reservoirs are sitting at almost 89% capacity, according to the Central Water Commission.
Western and central states like Maharashtra and Gujarat are especially flush, with 27 reservoirs nationwide completely full.
Meanwhile, southern, northern, and eastern areas are a bit behind but still holding steady at over 80%.

Why does this matter?

High water levels mean good news for farmers—there's enough for irrigation as rabi crops get planted (up 10% from last year).
But it's not perfect everywhere: even though post-monsoon rains were above average overall, about 16% of districts haven't gotten enough rain yet.
With more showers expected soon in the east thanks to a new weather system, things could improve further for agriculture and local water needs.
