Crisis-hit IndiGo announces ₹10,000 travel vouchers for 'severely impacted' customers
What's the story
IndiGo Airlines has announced that it will compensate passengers who were "severely impacted" by flight cancellations between December 3-5. The airline is offering ₹10,000 in travel vouchers to these customers. However, the airline has not defined what "severely impacted" means or how they will identify eligible customers for this compensation. IndiGo faced a massive operational meltdown after new passenger safety norms were implemented. The rules were aimed at addressing pilot fatigue by increasing downtime.
Statement
Voucher can be used for future journeys
In a statement, the airline said, "IndiGo regrettably acknowledges that part of our customers travelling on 3/4/5 December 2025 were stranded for many hours at certain airports and number of them were severely impacted due to congestion. We will offer travel vouchers worth INR 10,000 to such severely impacted customers." "These travel vouchers can be used for any future IndiGo journey for the next 12 months," it added.

IndiGo has clarified that the ₹10,000 travel vouchers are in addition to government-mandated compensation of ₹5,000-₹10,000 for flights canceled within 24 hours of departure. "At IndiGo, we are committed to restoring the experience you expect from us-safe, smooth, and reliable," the statement added. In a separate statement, IndiGo said it has restored services to all destinations and there have been no same-day cancellations in three days except due to weather or technical reasons.
Operational recovery
IndiGo's operational recovery and government response
IndiGo is now operating over 1,900 flights connecting all 138 destinations in its network. The government has cut IndiGo's winter schedule by 10% after a massive crew shortage led to widespread flight cancellations. Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu said safety in civil aviation is non-negotiable and tough action will be taken against IndiGo for poor preparation.
