Jaishankar lands in Sri Lanka to support cyclone relief efforts
India's Foreign Minister S Jaishankar is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka as PM Modi's special envoy, showing some real neighborly support after Cyclone Ditwah hit.
This visit is part of Operation Sagar Bandhu, India's big push to help out Sri Lanka with urgent relief.
Why it matters
India has sent over 1,100 tons of aid—think food, tents, hygiene kits, and loads of medicines—plus rescue teams and even an Army field hospital that treated thousands.
Indian engineers and Air Force crews have also helped rebuild bridges and restore connections.
The timing is interesting too: a senior Chinese leader, Zhao Leji, who ranks third in China's political hierarchy, is visiting around the same time, so all eyes are on how both countries are stepping up for Sri Lanka right now.
