Jharkhand man kills daughter, newborn for marrying against his wishes
In Oraiya village, Jharkhand, a man named Anil Choudhary allegedly murdered his minor daughter and her one-day-old baby after she married against his wishes.
The young mother had just given birth at Garhwa's Sadar Hospital on October 2, 2024. Both she and her newborn went missing soon after.
Accused father buried them in remote spot
After the woman's husband reported them missing, police arrested Choudhary. He confessed to strangling his daughter and grandchild before burying them in a remote spot nearby.
Their bodies have been sent for post-mortem at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, Ranchi.
An FIR has been filed and Choudhary is now in judicial custody.

Jharkhand recorded the highest number of honor killings in India last year (2024), with nine cases according to the National Crime Records Bureau.
The state continues to struggle with such violence despite efforts to stop it.
