Karnataka plans new 80,000-seat international stadium after Chinnaswamy stampede
Karnataka just greenlit plans for a huge international cricket stadium with 80,000 seats, set to rise on the outskirts of Bengaluru in Indlavadi village, Suryanagar, Anekal.
The ₹2,350 crore project aims to fix the crowd and safety issues at the old M Chinnaswamy Stadium, which has become too risky for big events.
The stadium will also double as a multi-sport complex for 24 other sports, with improved transport integration and safety features planned.
New stadium to fix safety issues
After a tragic stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium during the 2025 IPL celebrations killed 11 people, a commission found serious design flaws and called for major changes.
This new stadium is Karnataka's way of making sure fans can enjoy matches safely—and it's set to become a go-to spot for all kinds of sports and big events in the future.
