Karnataka raises sugarcane price after week-long farmer protests

India

Karnataka just bumped up the sugarcane price by ₹100 per ton, taking it to ₹3,300 per ton after meetings between the Chief Minister, farmers, and sugar mill owners on Friday.
This move comes after over a week of farmer protests—which have now been called off.

What is the new rate?

The central government's FRP was set at ₹3,200 per ton for a standard recovery rate.
Karnataka's new rate applies everywhere in the state—no matter the local yield differences.
Sugar mills will pay ₹3,250 per ton and the state will chip in another ₹50.

Other issues to be sorted out

The Chief Minister says separate meetings are planned to sort out issues like payment delays and disagreements over cane weight and quality.
Karnataka leaders also plan to push for better rates from the central government.
