Karnataka targets ride-hailing apps for overcharging

Karnataka's Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy is taking strict action against Uber and Ola after a wave of complaints about high auto-rickshaw fares, especially since bike-taxis were banned on June 16.
For context, Bengaluru's official rates are ₹30 for the first two kilometers and ₹15 per kilometer after that, with a service charge cap of 5% plus GST.

TL;DR

'Systematic overcharging.'.. Action to be taken soon

People have shared proof of being charged up to ₹100.89 per kilometer—way above the approved fare.
Reddy has called this "systematic overcharging" and plans to cancel permits or even file criminal cases if these companies don't stick to the rules.
The transport department has been told to act fast so commuters aren't taken for a ride—literally or financially.
