Karnataka's underground solution to Bengaluru's traffic woes
Bengaluru's infamous traffic jams might get some relief soon: Karnataka just approved a ₹17,780 crore project for a 16-kilometre underground tunnel connecting Hebbal's Esteem Mall to Central Silk Board Junction.
The idea? Cut your north-south city commute from an hour to just 20-25 minutes, all while skipping the busiest roads above.
Will this really help traffic? Skeptics say...
The tunnel will be built in two phases using eight giant boring machines working 30 meters underground. Construction is expected to take about 38 months.
Funded partly by BBMP and private partners under a BOOT model, there'll be a toll of ₹19/km starting in 2029-30 (but sorry, two-wheelers won't be allowed inside for safety).
If you've ever felt stuck in Bengaluru traffic, this could change your daily grind—though some folks are still skeptical about how much difference it'll make.
