Kolkata law college gangrape revives RG Kar tragedy
A 24-year-old law student at South Calcutta Law College was gang-raped on campus by Monojit Mishra, a former student and TMC youth leader, along with Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukherjee, two senior students, after she rejected Mishra's marriage proposal.
The assault happened in a guard room on June 25, was filmed by the accused, and the victim was threatened with the footage.
TMC distances itself from Mishra
The three accused—Mishra, Zaib Ahmed (19), and Pramit Mukherjee (20)—were arrested quickly and are in police custody until July 1.
Police have sealed the crime scene and seized their phones for forensic checks. The National Commission for Women has demanded a full report within three days.
The case has sparked political debate, with TMC distancing itself from Mishra and calling for strict punishment.
This incident has also renewed concerns about campus safety in West Bengal after a similar case at RG Kar Medical College last year.
