India mulls 'Observer' status for ICAO in AI-171 probe

India might let the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) observe its probe into the Air India AI-171 crash—something that's never happened before here.
The goal is to maintain best global practices.
Right now, India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is leading the charge, with help from US and UK aviation experts.

Investigation underway

The AAIB team includes specialists in aviation medicine and air traffic control, plus technical support from Boeing, GE, and the US National Transportation Safety Board.
They're currently digging into black box data to figure out exactly what went wrong—and how future crashes can be prevented.
